L’Austral is the second ship in Ponant’s Sisterships series, delivered in 2011. L’Austral name, meaning “southern” in French, reflects the vessel’s connection to exploration and voyages in remote regions. The ship was completed in April 2011 before entering service in May of that year, construction began in 2009. L’Austral was built as a near twin to Le Boréal, introducing Ponant’s modern small‑ship expedition style with French elegance. The ship has remained active in the fleet, registered in Wallis and Futuna, and continues to operate worldwide itineraries.
