Norwegian Escape joined the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet in 2015 as part of the Breakaway Plus class and was built by Meyer Werft in Germany. Escape was floated out in August 2015 and officially delivered in October. The ship began its maiden voyage from Hamburg to Southampton on November 9, 2015. Since entering service, it has remained active under IMO number 9690511, registered in Nassau, Bahamas. It received a refurbishment in 2022 to update its systems and interiors.
